Years back the Town of Newton use to set up a skating area on a cove of the Charles River. They had a heat changing shed.

Nashua has a rink right over the boarder at Roby Park. I know thats kind of far from Boston but seeing as your name in 495 neighbor maybe you happen to live along the north side of 495 near NH

also have a sledding hill

Nice suggestion. Hockey, I live about 20 minutes from Nashua. I will try that soon.

I'd have to go with Turner Pond and Lodge in Walpole, Mass. Volunteers from Walpole brought this area back to life a few years ago resulting in a well-maintained skating area and a cozy lodge with fireplace, television, snacks, sofas and chairs. The pond is beautiful. Walpole residents can sign up for a November through March winter pass for $20 per family, non residents $30. A day pass is $5. I recommend contacting Turner Lodge reps by email or phone to find out the latest status of whether skating is permitted on a given day. Here is the Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Walpo...02280319824647.
Here are some photos I took of Turner Pond during the outdoor skating season...
