This is good news. A friend told me about it and he's going there within the next few days. It has great German food and drink in traditional old world atmosphere. It's under new ownership but apparently it will be essentially the same.

So much of Springfield has been destroyed and lost forever. It's heartwarming to have something like this preserved. I know this forum does't focus much on western MA but if anyone goes to eat at the new Student Prince, I'd love to hear about it.

This is great news to hear, though TBH I didn't know they'd closed. 'twas a fun place to go (all three of us kids attended college in Western Mass.)

Although this forum is supposed to be statewide there's a definite shortage of people from west of Worcester. Other than Berkshires travel suggestions, drug problems in Greenfield, and ideas for apartments in the Pioneer Valley region "the 413" never seems to be brought up or represented. But without the latter the former shouldn't be expected. What can ya do.

Exciting! I've actually never made it there, then it closed on me. Second chance! Springfield has some pretty good dining if you know where to look. I never seem to think of going down there though.

Definite lack of overall 413 representation on this forum. Anything west of 495 for that matter. I do my best to mix in some misanthropic rants from the marginalized hinterlands, where the living is still sort of cheap and the scenery is prettier (except that whole we don't have a coastline thing...).

Having grown up near springfield and attending elementary school on the macduffie (rip) campus, I have a soft spot for the city of homes. I have very fond memories of the quadrangle museums, hockey at the civic center, red rose pizza, the matoon st art festival, field trips to the beautiful cemetary, community music school and so much more.

I really do hope the casino brings some much need optimism to the city. 91 is well traveled by the wealthy of ny and ct on their way to vermont. Perhaps the casino will draw them for a night or even just dinner. The blight if downtown springfield sparked my interest in urban planning and to this website. Amazing a city would allow a mall to be built that would end up
Killing their downtown.

Below is a Facebook page to show those out of the area what springfield once was.
