When someone is single, sure. When there are other family members impacted it's more complicated, especially in an expensive city like Boston where one income may not be enough until the spouse can find a job.

If they have to live apart for a couple of years due to job limitations, so be it. Still worth it. That's not uncommon. My brother and SIL were apart (different continents) for the majority of their first four years of marriage in order to better their careers and educations.

Even with hardship, this is not something to pass up, unless there was an equally good option elsewhere (Yale, Stanford, etc).

Thanks for your help. No kids, so schools are not a concern. Budget is as close to around $1500 for an apartment and we're fine with it being a studio. Our main priorities are to live close to Harvard and we have two dogs with us as well.

The dogs are going to be a real big challenge, esp on that budget.

Yes, and I'm not sure a landlord wants 2 dogs in a studio.
