Fortunately for me, I have some great work flexibility that makes snowstorms a non-issue for me in regards to making it to work. I can work from home, or just take PTO.

So if a foot of snow is in the forecast, I just make sure I have gas for the snowblower and enough activities to keep the kids occupied for a day or so or until they can get out in the yard.

I'm kidding, but seriously, I'd rather have this during the week. Then maybe I'd have a good excuse to bail on work. I'm a fan of the snow too. I don't see how anyone who sat through the 40 degree downpours over the past few weeks could say that winter rain is better than snow.

Seriously

I'll take the rain and the 40 degrees over snow and freezing temps/windchill like today. The 40 degrees is key.

Hey, I like a good nor'easter too. My body doesn't want to deal with the consequences. Now I'll shut up, retire to my rocking chair, and mutter "Get off my lawn"

Yeah and you don't have to shovel rain.

I'm not singling you out because I have no idea, and this is a common sentiment in Massachusetts: but I wonder how much of it is simply due to Bostonians/Mass Natives not dressing appropriately for the cold.

I have to walk a mile in about 45 minutes from now. I'm not phased. I'm throwing "rain pains" (but awesome against the wind) on over my dress pants and I have a nice, weatherproof winter jacket that I'll wear on top (the kind with an insulated hood that zips to cover your mouth and nose). I'll be fine. No gloves (although they're not a bad idea either, but i have good pockets), scarf, or hat. I'm not "bundling up." I'll also cringe walking by the people in the pea coats freezing their tails off. Honestly, with the right gear, the cold (and the wind) really isn't much of a factor. It's the rain, especially the cold, soaking rain that's the biggest annoyance. If there's a breeze, forget about umbrellas. Rainpants, boots and a good rain jacket help, but they're still soaked when you walk into the office or get in the car.

With the right gear, having to be exposed to the elements on a day like today beats the hell out of a day where it's windy and rainy or 90+ and humid. Those are the conditions you can't really manage. The cold and wind you can.

Everything else I want to say to this will make me sound like such a grouch. Maybe I'm a grouch.

I think I can clear the drive in under an hour with some shoveling assistance from the fiancee. If it weren't falling on the weekend, I'd be dreading it.
That's pretty good. It took me 30 min to do the 250 ft 1-carwidth section of my driveway with my 28" Troy Bilt 2890 Storm Tracker (including clearing out the ends of my neighbors driveways in the cul de sac). The 50x50 parking pad outside by garage - that's another story. I always do that section with a shovel or bring out my single stage snowblower for maneuverability.

Forty seven next week and I adore snow. I spend so much more time outside in winter then summer. It's fun, makes you feel alive!! This winter has been a big disappointment so far. Fingers crossed that it's about to change.
I will say though I am not thrilled about the timing. I had a babysitter for last Saturday, had to push it back because of The Pats. I moved it to this Saturday. Hopefully the roads are good by then.
