Medfield is great but it is over their stated budget.
You think? I've sold houses in Medfield under $600K. There are listings in that price range currently on the market. It really depends on what the OP is looking for in their next house 3 bedrooms/2 bathrooms isn't a lot of information to go on.

Well that's true. I was thinking of a 3 bedroom colonial or maybe a larger cape in decent condition.
I would just look at Canton since you will have a non-existent commute and there is a decent downtown area. I'm from Westchester. My town was very walkable and its something I miss living where I do now. It's pretty hard to live in a walkable town with a cute town center in MA for 600K. Especially south of Boston.
Towns with great school systems are very pricey, there are many multiple bids on listings. You may find something just under 600k but the next person is willing to pay 50k over asking. Although Norwood isn't on the top of charts for school system, I know several friends with kids in Norwood schools and don't hear complaints. Great downtown area with some wonderful restaurants. Norwood is a town with many roots and the house ing market is still very affordable. That's going to change within the next 3-5 years, so anything you buy now is sure to gain equity quickly.
I also suggest to look at Mansfield MA. We lived there for 5 years and we liked it a lot. Very family-friendly town with commuter rail and good schools. It has a small downtown near the commuter rail and it is relatively walkable. Foxborough may be another option. Sharon has the best school system in the area, but house prices are very high. I personally do not like Canton, because being in a convenient location is its only advantage and I think that Mansfield is much nicer. It may make sense to rent for a while in Mansfield and get the feeling. There are several apartment complexes there.
I would not go more south than Mansfield.
I would not go east of Canton either.
North of Canton: Dedham and especially Milton are ok options, but I would not personally go there for various reasons.
West of Canton: Norwood, Westwood and Medfield are ok options. Medfield and Westwood are known for the very good schools. However, they do not have any downtown basically. They are not walkable at all and they are very-very rural (especially Medfield). In addition, the houses are very expensive and the tax rates are high. Norwood might be an option, but I do not really see any advantage over Mansfield or Foxborough...

Mansfield, Foxboro, and Sharon are not walkable at all, even if they have semblance of a downtown. Coming from Westchester, they are basically looking for Belmont, Wellesley, Needham, Lexington. Obviously they can't afford that. I think south of Boston it's somewhat of a trade-off between walkability and really good schools.

I wouldn't characterize Medfield as "very very rural." I think it's more suburban. Typically suburban.

Well, every time I drive around Medfield, I see all these horse farms and the horses and I feel I am far-far away from any urban center... I am not saying this in a bad way. I am just saying that when we were looking for a house, we felt that Medfield is full of houses with big lots and kind of isolated and rural.
Medfield and medway seem very rural to me... and i spent a good amount of time in vt and grew up in milton. Im always suprised by how rural they are anytime i drive through them/go there

There could be parts that are. But when we drive from our place to our friends', mostly we drive past lots of houses. The area where my friends live is chock full of houses that have decent lot sizes but not acres. When I drive through the neighborhoods, they strike me as typical suburban neighborhoods. But I absolutely believe there are horse farms and some houses with huge lots - it's just that I haven't driven much through those parts.
When I think of "very very rural," I think of places that have very few to no neighborhoods and are almost all horse farms and woods and fields.
