While we are in the process of selling our apartment in NY and finding a house to buy in Trumbull, we realize that there's a good chance we'll have to rent for a few months in/near Trumbull.

So far anything decent/nice (we have two small children so I want to rent in a nicer complex even though it'll be short-term) that I've come across (mainly Avalon complexes) are somewhat expensive (especially for month-to-month).

I'm willing to go 30 minutes out in any direction, but not much further.

I've checked Shelton, Milford, etc... and everything seems to be priced nearly as much as Trumbull.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

If you can go out 30 minutes from Trumbull, there are definitely less expensive areas.

Shelton should be a bit cheaper. Milford probably will have more inexpensive options, but on a square-foot-basis, it's probably close to Trumbull as it's a fairly high demand rental market. The savings in buying in Shelton/Milford are greater than in renting. Both are worth trying though.

Further north and east, you'll find some more inexpensive options. Seymour, Derby, Ansonia, Naugatuck. Some areas are nicer than others. Seymour is a really good value.

Avalon is OVERPRICED. They are all marketing. You can do better with a multi-family rental, a condo rental, etc. Look on Realtor.com/Zillow. Even Spinnaker in Milford has some less expensive options (and in better areas): Spinnaker Apartments

There are LOTS of apartments in Shelton/Milford that will be cheaper than any of the Avalon complexes in the area.

Why go as far as Seymour or Milford when you have Stratford, which is more affordable, right next to Trumbull.

Milford/Stratford is a 2 mile difference to Trumbull. I also think it's safe to say that Seymour is cheaper than Stratford.

It's worth including in the search though. Just don't rent in the areas that border Bridgeport.

There would be absolutely nothing wrong with renting something in the Broadbridge area at the Bridgeport border. No reservations at all.

3 miles, and it's still closer - so why not recommend it? It's cheaper than Milford.

I checked out the Spinnaker options in Milford and they look pretty good. Can you guys clarify if you are recommending Seymour vs. Stratford, or both? And are there particular complexes I should look at?

Thanks again!

Stratford is a better option and closer to Trumbull than Seymour, although Seymour is nice and really affordable compared to towns below it.
