Digesting what the media feed you is a good thing? Enjoy your new iPhone. You sound like a poster boy for 1984.

Being aware of what is happening in the world is a good thing, yes. Being informed is a good thing. Caring is a good thing. Critically thinking about what is happening, what we can do to make a difference, and working on it is a good thing, yes.

I don't have an iPhone.

You sound wrong.

And things like level of education and awareness (religion too) are correlated with an increase in human happiness.

I'd probably be happier if I was dumber.

Actually, it is Hyannis that has that nickname. Do you really think that Osterville fits that description?

For the record, the "cities" on this list are actually Metropolitan Statistical Areas as defined by the Census Bureau - meaning not just the city itself. So "Barstable Town" in this case is literally all of the Cape (and makes my point of calling out the P-Town image in the article a bad point) - or Barnstable County. So it's not just Hyannis. It's ALL of Cape Cod.

Also, "Bridgeport" isn't just the city of Bridgeport. It's the entire Metropolitan area which is simply just the entirety of Fairfield County (inc. the actual city of Bridgeport). So it's a pretty comfortable affluent area as a whole, even if Bridgeport the city itself is tough.

I wish these lists would be clearer on what they're using. Metro areas are a lot different than just going by the city-proper and they could avoid confusion by clarifying. Especially in New England where our city-propers are so tiny relative to the county and metro area as a whole.
