We used to head to Nantucket for the week after Labor Day almost every year, but got out of the habit when our just dogs got too old to put in a kennel. It's probably been almost ten years and we're thinking about going again this year.

We always preferred Nantucket to MV, and Nantucket was always more expensive than almost anyplace else around the area - but worth it to us for a week anyway. As I look at what everything costs out there now, it seems it's only gotten more expensive, but it's still 'within budget.' But before we book a week out there, is it still as charming, casual/upscale and reasonably un-touristy as it was 10-20 years ago? Or how has it changed?

Thanks!

Post Labor Day September is definitely my favorite time on the island; beautiful weather, warm water, restaurants open, crowds gone. The "secret" is out on this time of year though and now the week after Labor Day is busier than it used to be. You might consider looking at the following week of 9/10 instead this year.

The island is as beautiful and charming as ever. It is also more expensive than ever, and (in season) snootier than ever. If you loved it then, I bet you still will. Enjoy your vacation.
