I've just posted a video of the Mayflower replica sailing from Plymouth Uk bound for Plymouth MA in 1957.

https://www.plymouthlink.co.uk/threa...317/#post-2136

I saw her sail but couldn't recall the date until I found this. It's really interesting for those following and waiting
for the celebrations to begin in 2020.

Very interesting. They made the sailors eat the original food?

I hope by that you are meaning type of food and not the actual 'original' food

Except for Native Americans for whom the arrival of explorers was bad enough but the arrival of English colonists marks the beginning of the end of a way of life, and, for many, of life itself.

Yes, that is a sad story but it mirrors the history of the world. Invasions, migrations, have always happened. Whoever has the money and power wants their way and will do whatever they can to get it. You know that England itself was raided and invaded many times over the centuries. Those Angles, Saxons, Picts, Celts and others---whatever their way of life, it was wiped out.

In South America, it was the Spanish who burned the ancient treasures of the native peoples and ended their style of life. It's always someone.

Americans now feel remorse for what was done. Nothing can bring it back but at least Plymouth MA celebrates the Native Americans now and attempts to give them some degree of respect and credit. And it is well known that the Mayflower settlers would never have survived in the first place if the Native Americans hadn't helped them. It's well known that the Native Americans taught the settlers how to grow corn, beans, and squash after that first deadly winter. Taught the half of the settlers who survived, that is.

Plymouth and Mayflower online sites that I have joined often feature tributes to the Native Americans.
