I haven't been a big mall person, but still, I am disappointed to see these major retail centers failing. Retail may not be the highest paying sector of the economy, but there are still jobs there, for people without university training, and with a chance to move up as well. Furthermore it brings disruption to the real estate market. Repurposing or redeveloping these properties is not necessarily easy.
Agree, it looks good if they can make it happen. Still have to deal with Walmart lurking out back and their stranglehold on the project.
If they can make it happen I can see this doing well, particularly adding some much needed suburban market rate rental stock in that area. I think neighboring towns would do well to follow suite with more mixed use development. Heck as long as the parking lot gets fixed I'd call it a win.
Didn't some kind of church buy part of the property?
I don't know.
This whole thing may be a pipe dream, as Shiver916 noted, if Walmart doesn't cooperate.
