Sale just signed a 5 year extension for what's being reported as approximately 150 million.

Good for him. I am all for one making as much money as they legally and morally can make. Again, good for him

I'm glad for Sale too.

And I agree with you - except when a contract harms the team. Think Pablo Sandoval and Carl Crawford.

Don't get me wrong. I have no problem with Sale's contract. I don't believe it will harm the team, and there's no reason to believe it wasn't a wise decision for the Red Sox.

The contract that I have concerns about is Mookie's upcoming contract. He's made it clear that he's looking for something similar to what Mike Trout just received (12 years, 430 million). As good as Mookie is, I don't think the Red Sox should even consider giving him that type of contract. If they do give it to him, I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Red Sox ended up being at or near the bottom of the standings for a decade. And that's even if Mookie continues to be a great player. Contracts like that mean one thing: lost opportunities. We'd need to rely on the farm. The farm that Dumbrowski seems so willing to give away.

To be clear, I do think Mookie is deserving of receiving a contract that is on par with that of the top superstars. I just don't want the Red Sox to give it to him. As long as he doesn't end up with the Yankees, I'm ok with him leaving. Although, it would be nice to see the Yankees eat the contract if Mookie turns out to be a Jacoby Ellsbury.

Sandy Leon was put on waivers. Disappointing.

Porcello got drilled in the head in tonight's game. Disturbing, but he claims he's ok. I'll see if I can dig up the video.

I'm so excited. This really is one of my favorite times of the year. A couple of days ago I bought tickets to the Patriot's Day game which I've never gone to before either. Still worried about the back of the bullpen, but this is a good team going into the season.

Let's get some predictions in before the start of the season.

Sox will go 98-64. Basically impossible to match last year's record, plus the Yankees are coming back strong. Sox will win the division by 2-3 games over the Yanks. They will make the ALCS, but not the World Series.

I say this because my reason tells me it is so incredibly hard to repeat in the MLB. Though if any team in recent times has a chance, it's the Sox this year.

That's all pretty reasonable. I predict 95-67 and win the division by 5 games over the Rays who, in my opinion, are a bigger threat than the Yankees (who have questionable starting pitching).

I predict that the Sox lose to Houston in the ALCS and the 'Stros beat the Cubs in the World Series.
