Hey everyone. I was wondering if anyone could help me.

My 75 year old mother is looking to possibly move out of her house in Billerica and move to a condo. She's not sure where to start yet, so allow me to give you her criteria:

1. Wants a condo with an association and some community activities would be nice
2. She's open to 55+ communities and as well regular ones
3. Her current house is worth about 500k. She's like something cheaper.
4. She would like to stay around the Merrimack Valley. She'd prefer to stay in Mass, but might be open to NH (but the property taxes there scare her a bit).
5. ***And this is the kicker. She wants to live in a free standing condo. Basically, she doesn't want someone living directly above, below or next to her. She's fine with neighbors, but she just doesn't want to share walls with anyone.

If you know of any places that match this criteria, I'd really appreciate your help. Thanks!

Maybe also consider 55+ mobile/modular home parks, especially in NH.

You’d be able to find a detached condo for her, but they are usually more than $500,00. Maybe try NH like the previous poster suggested.

Thanks Boston and Casey.

I've gone to numerous sites and it seems like there aren't a whole lot of free standing condos in the Merrimack Valley that are within her price range. They're mostly conto-apartments and she really doesn't want to live in one. She'd have to go to the South Shore or Worcester County to find what she needs if she wants to stay in the state.

I noticed a bunch of somewhat reasonably priced stand alone condos in Merrimack, Hudson and Londonderry NH. I might have to convince her that those are her best bet.

Too bad she wasn't interested in town home style condos. She may find more of those, and having a firewall between the next unit should alleviate concerns about sharing a wall.

The funny thing is that my wife and I live in condo apartment and every time she stays with is she's surprised at how quiet it can be. Plus, she likes the shared swimming pool and other amenities. I'm not gonna argue with her on this one. She's lived in a single family detached house since 1974 (4 years before I was born!), so I'm not gonna try to change her. lol

Oh well. We'll see what we can find.

I checked it out and was impressed with the unit but the whole Devens area is very weird. Almost no amenities, huge blocks of abandoned buildings, random ordinance training and 3am helicopter maneuvering exercises, etc. Perhaps the different phases and expansion of Emerson Green will help but I didn't want to make that assumption.

I thought the military had completely left the area?
