Brita filtered water pitcher. I filter a several liter bottles for drinking water, which lasts me a while. I just do a periodic mass filtration to fill the liter bottles. I change the filter in the pitcher every 2 months. It is a very cheap solution.

I got tired of paying for and changing the refrigerator filter for the in-door water dispenser.

Here in Needham the water is a mix of MWRA water and water from town wells. I don't love the taste so I get my drinking water through my fridge which has a filter. I also tend to fill up my coffee maker from there and use that water for cooking.

Because it's at least partly from wells, Needham water is pretty hard. I definitely have it on my radar to someday add a whole house filtration/softening system. Not many people tend to have them around town but I do notice not just the taste of the water but also I get some mineral buildup on my plumbing fixtures.
