What you said. Barney Frank is a major hypocrite, even in politician-land. He makes me sick.

The Providence area has a pretty sizable Latino population.

Southern New England also has a large population of Portuguese who are considered "white" for U.S. census purposes though often have significant shared economic, political, and social interests with Latinos (along with somewhat similar demographics and SES profiles). Based upon physicial appearance many of these Portuguese would easily be mistaken in other parts of the country as being of Latino and/or Mexican origin though, again, they are european and thus considered "white."
Huh?? Portuguese mistaken for Latino and/or Mexican? I don't think so! Portuguese areas are typically very low crime, with neighborhoods that are landscaped and manicured beautifully. Many Portuguese are being driven out of their neighborhoods by the Hispanics (true Latin people are Italian, French, Spanish or Portuguese). With those newcomers originating from Central & So America, and the Carribean.

Don't get Cape Verdean's confused with Portuguese. Portugal was at one time an Imperial super-power with many colonies, Cape Verde being one of them.

I'm sure that the OP has an argument.

I just have a hard time seriously debating someone who can't take the time to properly spell a person's name.

So I'm supposed to believe that you're so well versed in politics and economics, yet you can't spell?

Sorry, I'll spend my time debating/discussing issues with someone who actually has an understanding of the political process and who isn't re-hashing some radio entertainer's rant.

HEh. I had the same thought about my favorite actor, Robert Duvall.
A lot of illegal people in central Mass. are Brazilian. (And a lot of legal immigrants). Portuguese is the second-largest linguistic group.
In fact, four Brazilians are downstairs right now, working from a cleaning service that is bonded, insured, and hires legal people. Nice gals, hard working.
