We've lived in Worcester and Framingham. We like the whole Wachusett regional area, and found a nice place in Rutland. Nice rural, small town feel, but not too far Worcester. Good schools and a good place to raise kids. Somewhat affordable compared to even Holden or any where east.

Some people commute to Boston from Rutland:

Here is an old article that shows how far people are going to find affordable homes. Of course the market has turned since then. But you get the idea.
