Uh, no.

Even on Oahu, I can't speak to # highways except H1, H2, H3, (and H201, which isn't referred that way) - I couldn't begin to tell you the # of the Pali highway, Likelike, Kalinianaole, Kamehameha (the 20 we seem to have), etc.....

Come on Viper, admit it, you can't read a map. Lucky for us that you're not a pilot. But, your Hawaiian spelling could use some work.

When you live somewhere there is no need to research the roads. It's an island.

Of course the roads have numbers, but locals don't use the number.

There are people who are so navigationally illiterate that live in the Los Angles area that don't have a clue what country is immediately south of California. Many people I meet don't have a clue about north/south/east/west navigation.

When I retire, at least for several years, I won't have to move anywhere, since I can afford to own multiple homes or rent homes in other areas, without having to sell my current home. I'll start off snowbirding, not moving. Eventually, I might get tired of maintaining multiple homes, and I might move to another area. One thing for certain, I won't be in Minnesota during the winters. My countdown decreases every day.

You should be thankful for tourists. Without tourists, Hawaii's economy is dead. If you're insulated from making a living from tourists, you're not directly effected, but your neighbors may be severely impacted.
No need to know road numbers. IF a tourist asks a local for directions (happened all the time to me) then the tourist needs to listen to the local and write down the street names.

Your last comment is why I would send tourist to happy valley or give them this directions:

Ok Braddah, go down to Da Kine and turn mauka go through tree stop signs and take left towards da oddah kine. Make sho you pass da kine den turn makai. If you see papolo braddahs you wen to far.

PROBABLY not necessary.................... I love it, someone on the mainland telling someone who's lived on Maui for over 40 years what 'might' not be necessary. Your preaching to someone who's lived here for decades is PRECISELY what is wrong with so many newcomers to the Islands.

If that's the way the natives feel, I certainly won't be spending my money to fly 4 or 5000 miles just to be told Im not wanted and to go back home. I'd just as soon go to Jamaica or Aruba. They are closer and cheaper.

The way I look at it, the Hawaiians should be thankful they are a member of the United States. I doubt the mainland 48 would be any different with or without Hawaii. Hawaii needs the USA more than the USA needs Hawaii. They have a lot of nerve to tell their fellow Americans to go back home. That's just downright unAmerican.

tourists all have navigation these days in the car or on cell phone.....the numbers thing is a pretty weak criticism anyway, I suggest you let it go
