I have owned several Mazdas - an RX4, an RX7, a 626, a Miata, a Mazda6 and a Millenia S. They were all solid cars. The best were the RX7 and the Millenia S. The Mazda6 was wrecked but it was trouble free in the year we owned it.
I do not think most Mazdas have the build quality of a Honda nor the reliability. But they are still very good. Mazdas in general are very good to drive. Vastly more fun than equivalent Toyotas and better than Hondas.
The Mazda3 is one of the best compact cars available, all things considered.
I have a 2010 Mazda 3, 5 door w/the larger 2.5 engine. Its a blast to drive with great handling and comfort. This is my 7th Mazda product (Minivan, 5 Miatas and the new 3). All have been reliable and satisfactory vehicles.
I've got a 2004 Mazda3 which just turned 87,000 miles this morning. It still runs and looks like it's new. It's attractive, a blast to drive and inexpensive to maintain. Being a first-year run, the only ongoing quirk I've had to deal with is the TPMS, but it in no way has impeded the car's reliability. I'll be buying another Mazda when this one needs to go; hopefully not for years.
According to different reviews, Mazda received a total of 8 out of ten reliability rating but as to personal experience, i give it a six. I noticed how unreliable it becomes on rough terrains.
In 2001 I bought a 1989 323 4 door with 168,000 miles and the speedometer was broke. The car was perfect in every way! A family member bought it from me and both their kids used it through high school then into college. The thing probably has 300K on it by now. Still runs perfect...speedometer still broke
Mazdas are very reliable. I tested the Mazda3 in 2005. I REALLY liked the stick shift in the Mazda3. I have never owned a Mazda, but everyone i know that has owned one has loved them.
We have a 2004 Mazda MPV and have been satisfied enough with it to replace our 2000 Honda Accord with a 2010 Mazda 6. First time in 35 years that we have had two of the same make vehicles in the driveway at the same time.
Is it just me, or is the shifter on the manual tranny very heavy feeling? When I testdrove it thats one thing I couldn't stand.
Yeah, I had the same impression and opted for the auto which has the manual shift function. I wouldn't go back to a straight manual trans. Its the best of both worlds.
