Thanks for the board member regarding Memphis School information. Here is something I digged out recently:
List of 16000 of National Merit semifinalist was published last month. Memphis metro has total 96 (beats Nashville's 84):

White Station HS stands out with 22 semifinalist.
MUS has 15--highest among nonpublic school.
Germantown HS: 5
Houston HS: 8

I don't have the data on how many students in each high school, so I don't know the PERCENTAGE of students who are Nationa Merit semis, which is likely a more accurate measurement than the absolute number of National Merit semis of the school.

Also, each school may put on different emphasis on National Merit contest. I know from a 2009 news article that WSHS offer 2 weeks of summer program for preparing the PreSAT test, which is part of the considerations for semifinalists selection. This may at least partially explain their success. Losanna School, on the other hand, suppose to be very good from what I heard (has IB programs), only has 2 semifinalist.
