Capleville was a rural community southeast of Memphis off of Highway 78 (Lamar Avenue) near the Mississippi state line. It was a quiet place until the Saint Louis - San Francisco Railway built a classification yard there. Then warehouses began to be built along Lamar and Winchester Avenue. Now about all that's left of "old" Capleville is an old church and house on the south side of Shelby Drive just west of where is passes under the south end of the railroad yard.
I wonder if those signs reading "Capleville Unincorporated" are still on Lamar?

Remember when Shelby Drive was Whitehaven-Capleville Road? I lived not to far from Capleville in the 60s...in Parkway Village...

Seems like Capleville is still on a TDOT sign on 385... maybe?

385 doesn't go near Capleville. Perhaps you are thinking of Collierville?

Nah. But maybe I was thinking Lamar/78. But that sign may be long gone.

I don't remember that, but I do have some old Memphis maps that show the old name.

Google Maps has Capleville limits outlined if you click the name on Shelby Drive. The last time I went that way, I saw the signs.
