You can't do any better than Arlington schools, outside of putting them into private schools and that's a fact.

Did you read the Commercial Appeal this morning?

Interesting things were written on the validity of the measurements for academic acheivement for public schools in the state of TN.

I did. And although the grading was done on a curve, it still doesn't take away from the fact that Shelby County Schools are as good as it gets in the state of Tennessee.

I just relocated to Desoto County, Ms. in August of this year. As a field technician, I spend most of my work day in Memphis. My customers are both residential and comercial. So Im in peoples homes, as well as businesses. Before moving, I used this forum, as well as 3 pre-moving visits to Memphis, to get a feel for what life would be like in the Memphis area. What I saw in the visits (which were in the spring/summer) never matched up with all the negative hype I read on this forum.

After being here a few months, I'm convinced the negative hype is just hype. Yes, there is crime in Memphis. But it's no worse than any other mid-size town. Most of the crimes seem to be concentrated in a few parts of the city. I just read they had a Donnie Broscoe kind of under cover sting, and bust. I also saw crime has went down 17%. Maybe Memphis is looking to make some impreovements.

The only negatives I have about Memphis is the downtown area. It just seems so old and dated. I also think Beale St is just a tad bit over rated.

I have to disagree. Downtown Chicago, for example, is VERY modern.... Now, I never expected downtown Memphis to be just like downtown Chicago, but I did expect a little better than what downtown Memphis has to offer.
