I understand we are born with x number of brain cells, and we will keep losing them as we age.
Q- what happens if we lose too much potassium.do we suffer mild seizure?
The DSM V classifies dementia as a neurocognitive disorder.

Seizures are about 5x more common in those with AD, but still very, very rare. Seizures can be caused by things like small strokes-- too small to produce other signs, and AD and lacunar infarcts are causally associated with aging, but not necessarily with each other.

As far as dementia and not driving-- Do we really need to explain that one? Do we need seizures as the reason or are they just a minor, additional reason?
My thought, too. How about not allowing driving because they get lost or forget how to drive properly. My Mom began to suspect her friend had dementia when she was driving the two of them and didn't know which exit to take on a road she had driven all her adult life.

My dad had seizures. It was the first sign something was seriously wrong.

But, for my money, that hints at a way to avoid dementia. Keto diets are long used to treat seizures... so be in Ketosis and avoid dementia / seizures.

Thanks for the tip. I learned something today. I had never heard that. A quick search shows that it's an excellent adjunct especially in kids who aren;t controlled with the usual meds..The Brain works quite well on ketones as an energy source, although a little slower than when using carbs.

OTOH- don't assume an old geezer who has a first seizure has Alzheimer's-- it's much more likely to be from a stroke or met. Seizures in AD is still pretty rare. Strokes are common.

Yeah, when Mom started doing that we knew. She passed her driver's test but she had someone in the car with her telling her where to turn and what to do so, that skewed the actual reason for doing the test.

At 80, I thought people have to take a driving exam and eye tests every year ongoing to qualify for renewal of their drivers license? Also we have to report any major illnesses like diabetes to the DMV. I suppose it depends on where you live.

I haven't had seizures, some mild "fog". But I did learn thru dna testing of an allele I wish I did not have: apoe 3/4 a bit more likely to develop Alzheimer's than someone without the 4. yikes.

doing all I can and then some. not enough hours in the day to contain all this meditation, exercising, veggie eating and supplement taking. nir lights, audio, sauna, brain training games, keto, and of course intermittent fasting. small amount of wine. NO SUGAR EVER again. way low carbs, too.

Also, trying to remain calm. Next is finding how my hormones *** all of them *** are doing.
