Has anyone ever heard of this? She told me she can’t control herself when she gets manic.

I’ve never heard that being bi polar and having a “manic” episode makes you cheat. That seems like an excuse

Maybe your sex drive increases during a manic episode but does that mean you have no control over your hormones and have to sleep with different people?

That sounds ridiculous to me.

Lovely.

At least she is honest.

I googled that after I watched SHAMELESS and yes, it seems like it possibly is like that.

I don’t buy that nobody has control over themselves to sleep with random people especially when you’re in a relationship just because you’re horny

No question that people's behavior can be bad during a manic phase. It's not hormonal. They are likely to spend wildly, take impulsive trips, make bad decisions. Mania rules the behavior so yes, she could cheat.

I wouldn't suggest being involved with someone who is actively bipolar. The highs are a mess and the crashes very bad.

Yes its true. I've been around people that are bi-polar so I can 100% vouch for the craziness. There are several issues when in manic mode. Manic mode can drive a person to achieve alot and conversely lose alot. If that person is truly bi-polar then know that it's no joke and the normal person must remember to not jump on board to any zany ideas and pause the impulse.

I think my stepson is bipolar. Have thought so for awhile. That, or Pervasive Personality Disorder. And in spite of the fact that he has a wife, he also has a girlfriend, and they've tried to do the whole minage a trois thing, and then has also cheated on both of them. He's always been a horn dog.

Are you sure you want to date this person?

First there is a range of behaviors with people who are bipolar. There are people who are bipolar who are pretty high functioning and they aren't experiencing these types of sexual symptoms. The higher functioning people are more likely to hold down jobs and just manage their life better. Clinically bipoar disorder is a mood disorder. When the person is having a manic episode they are becoming emotionally dysregulated. What that means is that the have trouble managing their feelings. When they experience strong feelings, they often don't handle that well. Hypersexuality can be one of the symptoms of the disease, because here they aren't managing sexual feelings well. My brother who is bipolar-schizoaffective has hypersexuality. How that manifests itself is that he will often want to get naked in inappropriate place like out in public or in Church. He also sexuality propositioned pretty much all of the women he encountered including my then fiancée and the wives, daughters and girlfriends of most of his friends. I wouldn't say that he was an actual rape threat, he was acting more like someone who was really drunk and could really be talked in or out of anything, but he had no filter. He has on multiple occassions end up going to strip clubs and spending money that should have been for rent on strippers, booze and sex. When Charlie Sheen was rambling about having tigerblood and dating all of the porn stars, that was full blown mania with hypersexuality and when Britney Spears was shaving her head and intententionally showing her cooch to everyone, that too was mania with hypersexuality. Also when you go to a protest and see women just starting to take off all their clothes, that again is going to be generally the bipolar women with hypersexuality.

I have been to the Nami family to family meetings, a support group for family members of people who have a family member who is bipolar. When women who are bipolar have hypersexuality, they often will end up having sex with a lot of men because a lot of guys will agree to have sex to a woman who sexually propositions them. Guys rationalize there behavior here saying that it is concentual. But for the women involved they often regret their behavior afterward. There is also a real high rate of previous sexual assault among women who are bipolar, so if you do date this woman, you are likely dating someone with a fair amount of PTSD.

Yes they can become hypersexual. My old neighbor was bipolar, the condo was her boyfriend's and she lived there with him. When she was manic and her boyfriend was at work she would call guys and beg them to come have sex with her. She would get loud on the phone and I could hear her begging then demanding them to come over at that moment and *do it* and she would scream and swear at them if they rejected her invitation. When not manic mode she was quiet and kept to herself.

I misspoke. I think my stepson might have borderline personality disorder...not Pervasive personality disorder.

I had a friend who was bipolar, this was in the 70s and it was called manic depressive back then.

She was extremely promiscuous she'd have sex with someone she just met. She was hard to be around, she talked a blue streak, dominated every conversation revealing inappropriate things about herself to strangers. She'd get furious with people over nothing.

She got mad at me, not sure why. Our friendship only lasted about two years. After years of not seeing her she reached out but I let it drop. Too much drama.
