I live in Downtown Miami and when I drive through Mary Brickell Village there is always a lot of movement. I see great vehicles, people eating and spending their money! I know there was a thread about how Miamian's are not tuned with the reality of the economy. I wonder what type of jobs these people hold. I see them driving new vehicles, nicely dressed etc. Even in my building all these young people live here & I wonder what they do for a living to be able to afford over $1000k rents. What industry are you guys in? Many of my friends are unemployed and I am wondering what others are doing.

Drug dealing, burglary, etc.

Actually, a lot of trust funds, some of them work in finance, some in higher end sales jobs, etc.

Or they live on minimum wage and trying to impress. I bet that's a lot of it.

Some of those cars (especially on South Beach) are just fancy high-end rentals. The people with the REAL money either brought it in from another state/country or had money floating around their family already. Everybody in Miami can't have a top-notch, legal, bring home the bacon type job but there are a few. And honestly those people are way too busy working their butts off to be happily floating around the city everyday.

Sometimes mommy and daddy pick up rent, mortgage payments, etc. I know someone that the in laws bought their 600,000+ home as their wedding present. They could never afford that house.

It's easy to say Miamians are show offs who max oput their credit cards, or engage in illegal actions in order to make lots of money, but alot of people aout there of all ages make pretty good money, at least enough to pay rent on a nice apartment.

There's all types of people. I'm only gonna talk about the ones who pay their cars with their income.

The ones that can afford them usually have nice jobs in the Medical field(doctors, pharmacists) Sales (insurance, Telephone company, Banks, medical again) Attorneys, Upper management in most companies etc. Even a supermarket store manager can make six figures. Those jobs either take a lot of schooling, take forever to get promoted to that level or you have to be a really but really good sales person to keep a good sales job. There are also small business owners who do well.

Then you have another set who make between 30-60k, they can't afford to own luxury cars but they get leases like nurses, other medical positions, middle management etc. They usually get the cheaper model of a luxury car.

Then you have a group that makes even less money, they drive really nice cars but they live at home with "los abuelos" who pays their rent and utilities with their retirement or social security checks. These people only have to work for their car payment and sometimes work for minimum wage.

About rent, sometimes they have roommates, paying 1k between 2 or 3 people is not that hard.
