Hi all and thanks for reading,

I plan to move to Miami in a year and a half for college-hopefully the University of Miami or FIU. I have never been to Miami before and need some advice about safety, entertainment, transportation and/or culture. For example: What's the better school, Best beach to go to, etc. I also wanted to know your opinions about best partying spots in Miami-when I go to college I will only be 18 as a junior b/c I already take classes at a community college through my high school. AND..where are some spots to pick up nice-looking guys?! Any advice will help!!

South Beach is the best place to live and party. However, it may not be convenient to those schools. Brickell area is probably convenient to UM. UM is better than FIU.

Don't you think you should see where you get into college before deciding where to move?

Miami students frequent Coconut Grove and South Beach, and the school runs shuttles to the beach. University Village apartment dorms are nice, if you can get in. There are houses for rent all around the perimeter of the college, within easy walking distance of the campus.

Have you gotten accepted to these schools yet? UM is a top 50 school nationwide, and by far the best in the state, the only other one that could perhaps compete is UF. FIU has gotten much, much more competitive over the years. I saw students with 4.0 and above GPAs and 500-600s on the SAT get rejected. I would not suggest planning to live somewhere just because of these two schools. What if you don't get in? Not implying that you don't already, but you need a backup.

Anyways, as was stated earlier, if you want parties/attractive people/clubbing, go to South Beach. The commute to school will be brutal though. Personally, I would live closer to school and travel one a week to the beach as opposed to living on the beach and commuting 5 days a week to school.

safety, transportation and/or culture
All of these are basically nonexistent in Miami. That's my advice.

All joking aside, I would highly recommend visiting before making any decisions. Miami may not turn out to be what you think it is. The last thing we need is another poster complaining about how much they hate this city on here. Good luck!

Maybe you should come back in a year when you've been accepted.
