Take the 119 bus from Miami Beach. It will drop you off at the Omni bus depot (Omni/Arsht Metromover station) from there you can take the 10 bus or the 3 bus or walk.

I would probably just walk, it's only about a mile, or I would take the 3 bus since it goes up Biscayne (walk on Biscayne if you decide to walk, NE 2nd Ave isn't as safe as Biscayne)

What kinds of thing could happen while walking along NE 2nd Ave.

I don't think anything terrible, it's just more homeless hang out on 2nd than they do on Biscayne. Biscayne has more traffic and is just generally safer because of that.

If he's going to take the bus, the 10 will do, Biscayne is just a personal preference for me. I feel more aware of my surroundings there and if there's one thing you should do in any city it's follow your gut instinct!
