Not knowing anything about Miami, can you tell me which areas are the nicest and are also walkabout areas in Coral Gables.

Miracle Mile and Ponce De Leon is the heart of Coral Gables, this is where most of the restaurants and shops are. So if you could live with a few blocks of this then you would be in walkable distance to things in Coral Gables. You could also live closer to Merrick Park there are shops and restaurants, though I probably wouldn't walk to these things, I would drive. The nicest parts of Coral Gables are actually not near this area, they are along the water on Old Cutler Road or east of US1, where there isn't walkability. The other nicest part of Coral Gables is nearest the Biltmore Hotel, but not walkable to shops and the grocery store.

Little Gables is a so-so neighborhood located in Little Havana, lots of Hispanics there, I personally think that it is one of the more interesting areas of Miami.

Coral Gables in its entirety is one of the best areas in Miami Dade County. If you feel unsafe to walk at night I recommend you stay away from the boundary streets surrounding Coral Gables such as SW 8 Street to the north, SW 57 Avenue to the west, and SW 42 Avenue to the east.

Much of the residential areas of Coral Gables are very pleasant to walk/exercise since its usually tree lined sidewalks.

Many people run or bicycle down Old Cutler Rd. and Coral Gables has many large medians with sidewalks already included for joggers.

As for resaurants you may wish to visit Merrick Place or the Coral Gables city center near city hall. There are many shops and restaurants there.

Have fun.

Joe

Downtown coral gables, hands down! VERY walk-able, lots to walk too. Also, there has been talk of creating a metrorail line that will go down Douglas road link to info. The only thing about downtown coral gables is, there are some homeless scattered about. I don't scare easy but homeless come with issues, of the mental health variety. BUT, this is true of most urban environments. I have walked through there at one in the morning or some where in there and I have not felt unsafe.

I live near Ponce de Leon & Sidonia.I always go to walk or shopping at night(8 or 9 o'clock) with the baby in the stroller, and I see a lot of people walking their dogs or doing exercises! Nice place.
