search for "educational attainment"

Some stats:
  • appx 50% dropped out from high school- or sooner
  • <20% actually graduated from high school
  • <10% graduated from college (undergrad)

Ouch.

Any explanations?

I was surprised to see that Miami is surpassed by Los Angeles in educational attainment given how that city's problems seem to mirror those of Miami.

What are the demographics? That might reveal a lot.

The reason for that is we have the highest % of foreign born persons of any city not just In the USA but in the entire world!!!! 51.2% of everyone that lives in Miami-Dade co was born in another country. so the polices done by our local and state government aren't reflected here.

Many have already graduated from college but their diplomas are not validated here in the states.

Those seem stats seem out of whack. I know it's supposed to be bad, but less than 20% graduated high school? That doesn't even seem possible!

First you need to realize this is only for the city of Miami. Not the metro area.
Second Miami has over 50% foreign born population so that explains a lot right there. Huge immigrant community.
Third the actual city of Miami has a fairly high poverty rate so that clearly explains a ton also.
Fourth would love to know how old those stats are.

Ignorance and education are two separate things. A person can be educated and ignorant, and vice versa.

You could have worded this thread like "Miami, why so less of a formal education?"

Yeah, but are they not counting the people that have gone through the school system? Its not like they are counting everyone in general.

I think Fly is onto something, those stats must be just for the City of Miami, which we all know is a small 8 sq mile area.
