Man in custody after chase kills two PBSO deputies near Pahokee -- South Florida Sun-Sentinel.com

Out in far NW Palm Beach County this time.

Geez I'd never want to be an officer in South Florida

This terrible accident could have happened to any officer in anytown, USA. It's just part of the job that officers undertake to keep us safe. My thoughts and prayers with their families...

Yes but this is the third major incident this year in South Florida, the other two were in Broward and Dade.

Of course they accept no responsibility for the actions of the officers. Blame it on the criminal they were chasing. The training of the officers here needs to be investigated. Who would run in the path of oncoming police cars to retrieve tire spikes. The department and the officers are at fault.

I've got to agree with this one. Especially them blaming it on the criminal rather than the lousy decision made by the officers. They need to re-evaluate the chase rules as well.

Certainly it is very sad that these officers lost their lives while performing their jobs, no doubt about that. Many prayers to their loved ones.

Legally the criminal is at fault.

But for crying out loud... They said on the news last night the officers are trained to use the lanyard with the stop sticks. The lanyard was in the trunk. The deputies weren't following their training. Or common sense for that matter. I feel sorry for them and for their families.

I have been concerned about how police officers act with regards to traffic for quite a while. Many years ago I had one step out in the road to stop my car at a speed trap. I was going 40+ MPh and there was no way I could have stopped in time as he stepped out from behind a bush. Luckily for me the whole thing was witnessed by several people at the office building I ended up in front of. After lots of hassle it was determined that the speed limit was indeed 40 MPh and I had not violated any traffic laws. The County had to foot the bill for the damages to the fence and luckily I was in a rental car. If a police officer is injured by the direct actions of a criminal while performing his or her duties correctly, that is one thing. But deliberate endangerment of their own lives should not be charged to a criminal. If on the jury I would agree that the criminal(s) did flee or elude police, and were guilty of auto theft, but under no circumstances would I hold them responsible for the death of police involved. Follow proper procedure, especially when your life depends on it.
