I don't think it'll affect the U.S. much, not just yet anyway. The trade embargo deal was specifically for when Fidel dies, not just retires. We do have our own political stuff going on here, and I doubt Bush will open up travel, trade between us and Cuba. When he first got in office, he did away with much of what Clinton had "loosened" as far as penalties and fees for trading with Cuba. I think that we will see change once Fidel dies.

What do you guys think this means for Miami? If Cuba we're to go 100% democratic?

I'd like to see an end to the preferential treatment Cubans get when they reach our shore. I'd like to see them have to jump through the same hoops that other groups do.

Well if Cuba went Democratic, that would definitely change, and they would have to go through the same process as everyone else whether they like it or not. I think a democratic Cuba would create a small economic boom for Miami as people start moving from both countries en masse (mostly air traffic will skyrocket).

It is my dream to have the communist system in Cuba eliminated. A free market Cuba would put pressure on Miami to get its act together. The Latin American trade can go through Cuba instead of Miami, that would be wonderful. If they do not have an income tax, or Team Metro I am sure many businesses would like to move to Cuba. Havana has casinos, prostitution and the beaches beat Florida's hands down. Who would bother with Miami anymore?

That's what I was wondering about. How it would economically affect Miami, in terms of tourism, finance and investments?
