La times too, not a very 'liberal rag' if that's the disdain you have for science and facts. (i.e. they were the only paper to predict trump winning months before)

How about oceans getting warmer than we previously realized?? Is that going to affect people's lives? Is that just our warming period? How long does this 'period' last Dr. BNBR? Because its been going on for decades.

You seriously believe that the majority of scientists around the world (the world is round right?) are in on some grand conspiracy to scare people and push a false narrative?
Was the moon landing staged? Did 'Bush do 9-11'? What other crazy conspiracies are you buying into?
It is a risk management issue, not science, we simply do not know what will happen tomorrow, next decade, next century.

We do not know the future, that is not science.

As a risk management issue, then, most of us are much more likely to die in a car accident or of cancer in the next few years, even if we hedge the risk. Are we hysterical about it on a daily basis?

There is a risk of an asteroid striking Earth, NASA and other space agencies are doing what they can to hedge that risk, but no one is effing hysterical about it.

Yes, climate changes, we do know that because some billions of years, BILLIONS, provide tangible evidence and there is plenty we can do to hedge the risk of climate change going forward potentially detrimental to the way of life that some humans have been used to over the past 200 hundred, hundred years or so.

But that should be no excuse for politically-driven charlatanism and hysteria, yes, to mask ulterior motives, short-term motives.

After all, humans are small potatoes in the Universe.

Hysteria or risk management?

Personally I go for risk management, unless my business were political theater in which case I would go full throttle on charlatanism and hysteria like they do.

Good Luck!

The fossil fuel and coal industries are as big a player of /contributor to political theatre as any actor out there.

Anyways, my intent for sharing the article wasn’t to focus on climate change (though the author and/or proof reader did not do themselves any favors by mis-titling the article that devoted less than 10-15% of its content to this topic).

Interesting reading of the comments as well!

I am an American who emigrated to Europe two decades ago. I am acquainted with several Europeans who visit Miami off and on because they find it a great vacation place, but also an interesting blend of the U.S. and Latin America. An interesting article.

Are you familiar with the fact that Florida used to be entirely underwater? The Lake Wales Ridge is LOADED with beach sand. It's where we grow our oranges, because they do well in sand.

Coastal erosion? Yeah, that sounds like something that is likely to happen. Coasts come and go. Islands get bigger, some get smaller. We build right smack on the coast then complain when it changes? The earth has always changed. It's ridiculous to think that humans are somehow eroding the oceans by driving cars. What level of narcissism to think you are the one doing this.

Oceans getting warmer sounds great to me. Would you like to take a guess as to where corals grow?

Again, freaking out about June being hot. I mean, we are literally coming out of a cool period. The earth IS warming. It's literally warming. It's been warming and cooling for 4.6 billion years. So of course June should be hotter than it was the year before when in a warming cycle. That's kind of basic science.

You seriously think you are going to make the earth cooler by doing what, exactly? You are going to rescue everyone in India by reducing cow farts and driving an electric car? And you think WE are crazy? This is called the earth changing. If it's too hot in parts of the world, relocate to parts that are not so hot. Duh. That's called life. It's how you adapt in an ever changing ecosystem.

It's funny, you think I'm the crazy one, but you are the one joining forces with political hacks to wage a war against the weather.

Some are, absolutely. They are funded and paid for by political organizations. How do you feel about lobbyists?

You put scientists up on some pedestal that is not deserved. There are countless scientists, some work for political organizations and are very much guided by political principles. Not all. Some are hacks. Some are not. Why do you ignore scientists that don't agree with what politicians told you to believe? Because you are a sucker for a media narrative. Do you think reality TV is real, too?

That said, keep in mind the only news that you get is from scientific papers that fit a specific agenda. It's carefully curated to fool people like you. Congrats on proving how effective the media and politicians are at controlling your mind.

Want an example? You bring up record floods in a previous comment. Yet the IPCC themselves have said "In summary, there continues to be a lack of evidence regarding the sign of trend in the magnitude and/or frequency of floods on a global scale"

Want another example? You brought up "once in a century storms happening multiple times in the last 10 years". What do the scientists who are on YOUR SIDE actually say about this? The IPCC "No robust trends in annual number of tropical storms, hurricanes and major hurricanes counts have been identified over the past 100 years"

Yet here you are, spouting off about record floods and more big storms and blah blah. You aren't even listening to the scientists you hold so highly. Instead, you are spouting off media/political bogus talking points that the scientists YOU like say aren't even true. Why is that? Because you are completely controlled by politicians and the media without even knowing it. You are utterly clueless. Need more proof?
