We have a large haitian community in South Florida that will be affected by this tragedy. An update is that the Tsunami watch for Haiti, Cuba, Bahamas and Dominican republic has been canceled.

The US just granted Haitian illegals temporary asylum. This should definitely affect South Florida:

AFP: US grants Haitian illegals temporary asylum

"Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Haitians would be granted Temporary Protected Status, or TPS, that would allow undocumented individuals living in the United States to remain for 18 months. That would allow them to renew or obtain drivers licenses, and work legally"
