Thats because no one is going to work temp. or on an unproven job and give up unemployment. At a union you throw your card in the pool and when a job comes up you get called when your turn comes, so you want people who get a check every week to go to work for a few weeks then sit without Unemployment till a job comes in if one comes in? You are a republican rube.

And here I thought there was still enough pride left in humanity that they'd 'rather' give up the handout for honest, character building work! Sheesh, guess I'm dead wrong! And if someone did go to work for a few weeks and, then, that job ended, couldn't they apply for the handout (aka Unemployment) again?

I think you you would be VERY surprised how many people would rather live off unemployment then get a job. I would say the percentage would be rather staggering.

I agree, it is a rather staggering percentage. Mostly it can be attributed to not being able to make as much money through actually working (when you add in drive time and all that other stuff) as you do on unemployment. Plus, I think there's people on unemployment who do some odd jobs under the table, so really what's the point in taking a part-time job?
Our system is seriously flawed.

I saw this story air on the news that night. I understood Mr. Schultz to say that these were not occassional over-the-road routes. They were more or less dedicated local routes where the driver would have the same route every week and be home at night.

Furthermore, he is willing to send individuals to drivng school to get their credentials. Why would he bother to train drivers just to lay them off?

This is the business to get into right now. I was reading just last week Michigan will be a hot spot for jobs in the next few years, as the auto industry alone adds about 60,000 jobs.
