Why are some people trying so hard to make believe that there is employment in Michigan? The picture is clear...why are you wasting your time to say otherwise.Unemployment in Metro Detroit is around 50% if not more.Stop misleading people!

While I don't necessarily live in the metro Detroit area, I do only live about an hour from downtown Detroit and in SE Michigan, and both my husband and I found good, solid, decent-paying jobs with benefits here in late 2009, when the recession was supposedly at its peak. As I type this, I still have my job and I have a message on my answering machine wanting to set up an interview for another job. My husband has also had companies solicit him as a potential employee. I think it's all in what you do. He and I both work in high demand, fairly recession-proof professions. I'm an RN and he is a truck driver. I feel very fortunate to have a good job right now, but I know that if I worked in a field that is less in demand I would probably be out looking right now too. That said, it seems to me that things are looking up. Friends and family members who are in other lines of work than Hubby and I have found decent employment in recent months and it seems like every day I open the newspaper or turn on the news and hear about new jobs coming to Michigan.

Hang in there and good luck finding a job here in Michigan.

METRO Detroit unemployment is around 13-15%, not 50%, it's higher in the city itself, but the city is a different situation. No one else is misleading anyone, every single person I know has a job except my nephew who is 23 and has no skills or education. It depends on what you do, I'm not even saying every college educated person has a job, but in many fields there are openings. It's ridiculous and misleading to imply there are no job openings in MI.

Have you even bothered to check the various job websites such as Monster.com or Indeed.com? There are literally thousands and thousands of job openings in Michigan. As far as the unemployment figures for metro Detroit, Detshen is much closer to the actual figure than your ridiculous speculation of 50%. Metro Detroit includes Detroit as well as all of its suburbs and outlying townships, not just Detroit proper.

Maybe you should find another outlet for your frustration, rather than to vent it by spewing half truths or downright lies on internet forums.

Your of course going to have a tough time finding a job where you are competing with thousands of other people. If you can do many different types of jobs, you will have a much better chance. I do not believe someone can not find a decent paying job, if they are giving it their all. You do not need to make huge amounts of money to live comfortably in much of Michigan.

That a good point, the cost of living here is very affordable, especially housing. After living in other cities I can't believe how reasonably priced houses are. When many people are competing for jobs you have to work harder at networking and maybe take classes to update your skills, but jobs can be found. If all you do is sit around and wait for employers to call you, you will stay unemployed.

You have no right to interfere with my rights and you are not bringing any facts. So stop slandering me.You don`t like that fact than produce jobs or give me one to prove otherwise. Also since you are so cozied up and comfortable with your job why do you need to put down others who can`t find jobs.So shut your mouth and don`t make personal attacks on me.

Now that's better! You'll only get a rise out of the easiest pickings but you're moving in the right direction.
