Detroit- 4,403,437
Grand Rapids- 778,009
Lansing- 453,603
Flint- 443,883
Ann Arbor- 322,895
Kalamazoo- 323,713
Holland- 261,957

Suprised to see Flint metro still highly populated. Also suprising to know that Holland has a much more populated metro than Jackson ( Jackson metro estimated around 160,000).

Comments? Which would you rather reside in?

LOL! None.

We left the Grand Rapids area six years ago (both of our families are in this area). Moved to da U.P. Took a job transfer to Kalamazoo in October of '09 to be near extended family again. Moved back to da U.P. last September. We didn't even make it back in "civilization" a year.

We're not metro folks.

If I ever had to move from Petoskey to one of those places, my first choice would probably be Holland. Very family oriented community, still on Lake Michigan, close to big town ammenities in GR, and only a couple hours from one of the worlds great cities in Chicago.

The I-196 corridor between Holland and Grand Rapids is pretty much suburb after suburb these days, and I think they also lump Allegan County in with the Holland MSA for another 50K people.

Funny how I couldn't wait to get out of GR after high school, and it's evolved into a place where I wouldn't mind living again if our Florida situation suddenly imploded. IMO, it's really changed for the better since the 80s. I'd also live in Ann Arbor again.

I'm a little biased, but I think Metro Detroit is the best because it has a lot of stuff due to its sheer size. Half of Michiganders are Metro Detroiters. Detroit also has the fastest pace of all Michigan cities, which is something I really crave. I also dig GR, but it is too small and I would really miss access to the pro-sports of Detroit. Ann Arbor is somewhere in third, but it is too much of a college town for me.

They all offer some fabulous places to live. I would like living in some of the metro communities in any of there areas. It really depends on which community.

If money were unlimited Ann Arbor.
Then it depends on what area or suburb of Detroit ($ again).
Kalamazoo
Holland

Yep, numbers way to high, and I'm guessing low if they're saying Jackson only has 160k.

The city of Jackson only has 33,000 residents per the 2007 census community update. The entire county of Jackson has less than 150,000 folks...not sure where these numbers were extracted from?
