I grew up 10 minutes from the Ohio border so it's weird to me to see all this excitement about "finally having fireworks" - lol, we've always had them down there since it's so close to the border. Grand Rapids passing a new law is just ridiculous. Of course there is going to be a spike the first year or two when people are excited. It will calm down as time passes and people aren't in "I have to do this as much as possible to make up for not being able to do it before"-mode.

Although, (ironically?), this is the first year in a while that I didn't bother to get any fireworks. lol
7 fires in the city of Grand Rapids that were fireworks related in the last 2 weeks. Of course, the drought doesn't help.

Kent County Sheriff's Dept is basically refusing to answer nuisance calls about fireworks now because they're getting so many, and just tell people to "call your legislator."
