I was in TC a couple weekends ago and all I kept thinking was...next fall, this is going to be home! My family and I are moving to Traverse City in the fall of 2013. We are both in the medical field and are looking forward to getting into Munson.

Besides that, I still have to have a few cold micro brews ready for my friend Michmoldman!

I thought I recognized your style. You were considering many places in Michigan, now you have settled.
TC is one of my favorite places to visit, but not to live. That's just my particular big-city needs, otherwise it is in, and within reach of, my favorite LP region for recreation. Munson seems like it could be a dream job. Hope you like it, and I hope you get a chance to explore my favorite area, the Sleeping Bear coastline, if so inclined.

Thanks! We were thinking about a couple places but they didn't seem to fit what we were looking for. TC has the bases pretty much covered!
We'll definitely be checking out everything TC has to offer...and then some!

Excellent! It's kind of hard not to think about something like that. When do you plan on moving? Does your store have a grand opening date yet?

Knowing this you can extrapolate the "rigidity" index here. Pretty damn rigid.
That just means it's rigid in the opposite way from the West Coast which is rigid in that everyone has to try to be more liberal than the next guy and everyone has to act like some old hippie or yuppie. The West Coast is far more rigid when it comes to staying up with the Jonses. You don't find quite as much of that in Traverse City as the West Coast. It's okay for example to drive a Ford, you don't have to run out and buy your kid a BMW because your neighbor bought his kid a Lexus.

I think Traverse City is a bit provincial -- but it only makes sense that it would be. As for things to do, there are of course plenty but it comes down to what someone likes to do. If one likes cross country skiing, snowmobiling, hunting, boating, hiking, camping, sailing, gambling, shopping, eating out, and all that kind of thing, there is plenty to do. My biggest problem with TC is that it's cold and has long winters so I escaped.

I'm curious if the original poster jlgarfield, ever made it to Traverse City. Malamute, where did you escape to?

What's it like? A pleasant town in the most beautiful spot in Michigan. That's what it's like. I love it there.
