Yes they are. They are not spelled like they are pronounced, but the way the locals pronounce the name IS the correct way... whether you like it or not; or whether you agree or not.

You seem to have developed a real obsession over all things Gaylord. What is funny is your stubborn refusal to admit wrong on pronunciation of the name.

How is Detroit pronounced? I am pretty sure it isn't pronounced like the majority of locals I have heard pronounce it then, if you follow your own flawed reasoning.

The correct pronunciation is De-twah. I also never claimed locals pronounced Detroit right either. Detroit is a unique name. Gaylord is not. There are other people, places and businesses named Gaylord.

I'm not obsessed with Gaylurd. I have a total of 2 posts about Gaylurd in the past 2.5 years.

I will say Gaylurd has a terrific dentist. They didn't seem like the rest. They were friendly and had this easy going personality like they were stoned.

You have 9 posts about Gaylord in this thread alone. It is spelled Gaylord by the way, just because they pronounce it different doesn't change the spelling. That is just showing your childishness.

So do you pronounce Detroit as De-twah or as the locals do? You seem so dead set on correct pronunciation I would hope you do; either that or you are a hypocrite.

There are also other cities/towns named Detroit... 6 of them to be precise including the one here. There are only 4 cities/towns named Gaylord in the Country. I guess using your own argument, Gaylord is a much more unique name than Detroit. If you really want to get into people, places and businesses as well that are named the same as these two places you will find Detroit FAR outnumbers Gaylord for other entities with the same name.

I was talking about prior to this thread. I pronounce Detroit like the locals do, just like I did with Gaylord after I arrived and pronounced it correctly. Gaylord is a common surname. Detroit is not. Businesses named Detroit were named after the city. Gaylord hotels, for instance, are not named after Gaylord Michigan. You seemed to be obsessed as you keep yammering on about it.

I have to wonder how scolls would pronounce Arkansas, Ar-kansas or Ar-kan-saw.

The reason Gaylord doesn't have a larger hospital is due to population, there is not enough to support a larger one.

My husband had to go downstate for business recently, and he stopped in Gaylord- took a picture by Speedway, why, I don't know, lol- but he told me that seeing it again made him kind of homesick. We really did love it there, it was beautiful.

Speedway??? You need to take him out more .

For me it is Sylvan Knob (known now as Treetops) that takes me back to how nice it was there. Decades ago, long before Melling bought Sylvan Knob from Lynn Mead, it was a very small sleepy ski area that only a few locals used. There were many evenings I was the only one there and had free reign of the place. So quiet and peaceful out on the hills, just the sound of my own skis cutting through the fresh snow, or complete silence when I stopped.
