Looking for feedback thoughts , and information on the MI, Otter Lake Area. It approx 36 miles from Flint, population of 492. I am moving to be closer to my family and get away from the busy lifestyle of the city. Need information on potential jobs, activites for my children, and the social scene
Any information would be helpful really !

Potential jobs...activities...social scene...in a town of 492? And that close to Flint, omg....you don't want to go there for any of those things!

However, all is not lost! You're only 21 miles from this:

To be fair, being 36 miles from Flint does not automatically make it a bad place. There are lots of nice places to live within 36 miles of Flint.

I looked at Otter Lake on streetview and it looks like an OK place. It is tiny, though, so there won't be a whole lot to do there. Didn't look like there was much business activity on the main street. It's probably like most other towns of that size.

But again, don't let the distance from Flint scare you. It probably has nothing in common with Flint.

Otter Lake is a cute little town but there's really not much there at all. It's rural, it's pretty but not much of a social scene that I'm aware of. Lots of outdoorsy opportunities - hiking and biking, water sport, fishing, equestrian, snowmobiling, mud bogging - there are several large parks and facilities with miles of trails around there. The Mounds, Holloway Reservoir, several golf courses.

For jobs, you're about 20 miles to Lapeer which is a nice, bustling little city. Has a hospital, all the big box stores and a cute little older downtown area.

Friend of mine lived in Columbiaville (spitting distance from Otter Lake) and their daughter went to school there. They waited until she graduated before moving, because she did well at the school. Then they moved to within spitting distance of Flint LOL.

I'm curious why Otter Lake in particular? Honestly just about any of the small communities around there will be similar, depending how close you want to be to "city life."
