Dundee is a small town of about 4,000 people in northwest Monroe County (about 20 minutes south of Ann Arbor) that has been lying basically dormant since the recession. All of a sudden though, this year things have really started booming. Two new national chain auto parts stores have opened up when there were already two others in town, they are finishing up a huge, upscale apartment complex on the western edge of town near Cabela's with at least a couple of hundred apartments in it, and an out of town builder from the Metro Detroit area is buying up all of the subdivision lots in town that have been sitting vacant for years and starting to build new homes everywhere, when there is very little, if any, new construction going on elsewhere in the area. Oh, and I just learned today that a new Toyota dealership is under construction in Dundee, when there are cities around Dundee that are 4-5 times its size that don't have Toyota dealerships.

I think all of this may be pointing to something bigger in the works, but no one seems to know what it may be. For example, why would a town of 4,000 working class people that isn't really all that close to anything suddenly need a bunch of upscale apartments and new homes? Why would Toyota choose to build a dealership in a small cornfield town like Dundee?

I know that a few years ago there was talk of a Six Flags amusement park being built near Dundee, but that seemed to be dead in the water. Could it actually be a possibility again?

Anyone have any idea why the sudden boom in this small town?

I thought Six Flags owned the land by Cabela's but then sold it to the indoor waterpark developer?

I think it might be this:

LOL, that must be it!

As far as the part about Six Flags selling to the indoor water park developer, the water park is inside the Holiday Inn Express on a relatively small lot between Cabela's and some restaurants, so I wonder what that developer has planned, if anything, for the rest of the land? I'm assuming they own quite a parcel if Six Flags was planning to build an amusement park there.

I don't know what county that is, but most counties now have GIS mapping systems where you can zoom in on any parcel and find out who the owner is, when they purchased, purchase price, etc..
