Unfrotunately the KFC here caught fire a while ago and hasn't reopend since, but on to the subject. My favorite thing about Cheboygan is the porn shop (jk. we seriously have one though, which surprised me). I guess my favorite things are the people, the back roads (gotta love two tracking), and the pizzahut.

LOL.

Got thrown out of Aloha State Park for being nekkid.....

Long story.

My two favorite things in Cheboygan:

Walleye

Sturgeon

Period.

My Dad was stationed there for five years as a MSP trooper. I was quite the young 'un back then, and remember when he killed a black bear. Brought that thing home and cooked it; even the dogs wouldn't eat it.

Oh.

And that nekkid thing?

Long time after we lived there.....LOL.

...it involved a girl, BTW.

...and a tent...

..and alcohol....

....but no sturgeon or walleye....

Best things about Cheboygan? The Kingston Theater (as many have mentioned), Scalawags for white fish (so friggin good), all of the old homes with field stone foundations probably quarried from the Huron shore (very unique and distinctive), the old "Carnegie Free Library" building even if it isn't in use, the people really are friendly even to interlopers like me as long as you slow down a bit and don't act like you own the town for the 2 days a year you visit. Nearby I like towns like Tobinabee (looks like a postcard), Hack-ma-tack restaurant, the Cheboygan River/Inland waterway (so beautiful and unique), the drive towards Mackinac City with the bridge/Lake views as you go, the "summit" as you pass through Riggsville with its beautiful farms and views. Really there is too much to mention but I find that Cheboygan offers a slower, more laid back feel than Petoskey/Harbor/Charlevoix and similar places on the west side. Cheboygan remind me of many of the UP towns I've visited over the years; it's a subtle charm.

I saw the new Harry Potter at the Kingston last week. I love that theater. Old school up north.

As a child loved the County Fair there. Also has a great dermatologist there-Dr.Gray. Not even sure he is still around. He used to take vacations to go help countries that were less fortunate than ours. Also had an awesome dentist too, Dr.Darnell. Not sure he is still around either. Also thought Dairy Queen was cool too because we did not have one but would always go get a treat after the doctor appt because it was beside Dr.Gray's office!

I know Kretchmans was there not long ago...I will miss it forever because it reminded me of grandma. I wish Villa's was still there, I remember it being the best pizza in the universe...and no, I don't believe it's the same Villa's as in Petoskey. B&C was ages ago, as was the old JcPenney across from the paper mill. Sometimes I wish I could move back there.
