Cause considering relocating to UP Manistique area ...
I'm looking for insights ( good and bad ) and all ( pros and cons) from others living in the area ( or who have lived there ) full or part-time.
Where to go for shopping and recreation ?
What about winter ?
I'd be especially interested to here from those whose property is right on L.MI shore....
what would be those specifically related unique considerations in purchasing such property ?
Is it smelly from the paper mills like Tacoma ( sorry Tacoma fans).
Any input welcomed and will be appreciated. Thanks.

there is probably someone more qualified to answer this for you, but i did grow up with a cottage on lake michigan between Guliver and Manistique...it is BEAUTIFUL up there in that area-awesome sand dunes (not right right in manistique though)...as for shopping for some stuff i am sure Manistique has it..for more shopping Escanaba is not that far away-maybe 45min recreation-you are SURROUNDED with things to do...national forests, beautiful shoreline, hiking, biking, swimming, hunting, ummm a million things
I think with property on the lake itself-you don't want something right Up on the shore itself first that is jsut sad let the dunes be natural, second in the winter you will have ice push up on your beach pretty far and you don't want it to do any property damage...of course i didn't purchase the cottage/cabin as it had been in our family for years, so when my grandma bought it, it was pretty cheap!-we had thick forest on either side...dunes in front then the beach...it was awesome...we had some neighbors but they were not that close.....
I can't vouch for paper mill smell-driving through you never smell it, like you do in green bay...but a local would have to help you with that

you will be in the middle really of nowhere-not many cultural opportunities-of course escanaba will have stuff-i love native american culture so there is that kind of stuff going on.....ok i'll shut up now since i am not an expert
