Has anyone been drafted into the military and then discharged because of a medical condition? Found out today you can get VA hospital care. A friend of mine is getting it after being discharged because of a medical problem during Vietnam war. The medical problem was discovered before going into boot camp and he was only in for few months.

Yes, that is correct. If a veteran is discharged, due to no fault, it is the determination of the military, that veteran is not able to perform job functions in the military, due to medical issues, he/she would still be eligible for benefits after discharge, as it would be usually a medical discharge.

Correct. I work for the Department of Veterans Affairs. Have worked for them for 14 years now. I have seen people receiving VA care AND disabilities after being in only a few weeks. Yes, I said a few weeks. Some of them never even finished basic training.

This friend told the military he has Asthma before being drafted and still they drafted him. He never finished basic training because he was in military hospital most of time.

Interesting information. Makes sense, though. As long as they didn't try to hide the condition, why not give benefits?
