My mother knew a lady who transcribed the tapes to text. Then my parents would sit down and look through it all, making any changes it might need. This was fun, with a couple in their 80s who knew almost nothing about computers, working on one. 2 or 3 times a week my wife, my parents' computer tech, would get a phone call. "I hit this button and everything disappeared!" Sometimes she could talk them through it, other times on the next weekend we'd go visit them, about 50 miles, and show them what they did wrong. Anyway we had help from a family member who worked in an office supply store to put it in book form. We only had 50-60 books made, mainly for family. I wouldn't take a million dollars for mine! My dad was in the "Lost Battalion of WWII", the 30th Infantry Division, 230th Field Artillery. They were surrounded by the Germans from Aug. 5-Aug 12, 1944. I've read this book several times and know I'll read it again.

You should considering getting the book scanned and making a copy available to the Veterans history project. Look at this site.

^ second that. I've heard about the project but it didn't cross my mind for some reason when I read your post. Sounds like your dad has a story a lot of people outside your family would be interested to hear. Please check out the link.
