I still think the PT standards are retarded and pointless. But that's just my opinion. I played the game for 10 years and decided that was enough. Just not worth the effort.
I served on the ground with Air Force troops outside the wire in Iraq in 120+ degree heat. I know that good physical fitness is important. Troops that don't want to get with the program can do what you did...

Ha Ha Ha yeah they can.
I also served outside the wire in Iraq for a year and was obese according to the Military. I did just as good as everyone else, but being able to run a mile and a half is so important because we sure did a lot of that in combat.

You're asking for logic from the military? Good luck w/that.

Surprisingly, there is actual logic behind this one! It has little to do with deployment toleration and/or being in shape for your job...
The AF thinks by pushing a PT culture that an arm length list of things will happen if you're healthy...Reduce the chances of contracting a disease, lowering the odds of the depression, PTSD, suicide, etc.
There will be a lot of talented people forced to leave...Time will tell if this was a good idea or not. Some of the most brilliant guys I know in the service skip PT and stay two hours late...
FYI: The Guard is still once a year, obtaining a full time slot is extremely competitive...Reserve is twice a year.
