Just wanted to start a thread for those who wished to express a few thoughts this memorial day. I think for me honoring the fallen is by Remembering them. To all my Relatives, friends and those unknown to me who paid that ultimate sacrifice. A moment to reflect, and to REMEMBER. Salute.
IMG_3285 1920w by Ricardo, on Flickr. Memorial Day Parade, May 31st, 2010, Rio Rancho, New Mexico. The parade
proceeded down Southern Boulevard and ended at the Rio Rancho Veterans Monument Park, just a mile or two. Then a
remembrance ceremony honoring the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in military service to their
country.
We are departing for the event in a short while... I'm hoping to see some of the same friends and family which are
usually there...
Thanks for bumping this thread Poncho.........my thoughts and feelings have not changed.......
Just a thought.........would it not be more appropriate for city-Data to have a Purple heart shown in the header for Memorial day... rather than a Bronze star?

My little town has their "Spring Fling" celebration on the Saturday before Memorial Day-vendors in the park, a parade, etc. Many people have yard sales & Hubby & I have a barbecue. Then on Monday (Memorial Day), it is spent very solemn-thinking of those who made that ultimate sacrifice-not only the men & women in uniform but also their families & friends.
I really hate it when people say, "Happy Memorial Day." There is NOTHING happy about it. That is like saying, "Happy 9-11." People seem to think it is a kick off of summer and because they have a day off it is a good excuse to party, have barbecues & hit the beach. They do NOT think of those men & women who fought so they COULD have barbecues or go to the beach.
So, as you go about your day today, please keep in mind those people who have died, those who have lost loved ones, and those who are in harms way on the battlefields in Afghanistan, Syria, and other places.

The Purple Heart is awarded to those wounded or killed while serving. Whereas Memorial Day is remembering the people who died while serving in the country's armed forces.
I'm not sure what would be appropriate for City-Data to post...

Agreed since most of the Bronze stars are awarded for actions of heroism during combat or in combat zones.
