How about something on the lighter side of the Military thread, words & acronyms that we used in the service and their meanings, such as.

(Scuttlebutt): meaning, "Gossip",

"Boys did you hear the new scuttlebutt about the new Dive Officer and why he's on this boat?"

Or,

(Cover): meaning, "Head gear",

"You had better take that cover off your head when you enter the building!"

Or,

(SNAFU): meaning, "Situation Normal All Fouled Up."

I was trying to keep it clean, guys .

"The Green Weenie."

What the Army gives you occassionally. For instance, if you thought you were going to Germany, but your orders said Korea, you got The Green Weenie. If you were supposed to have winter gear for Graf in January, but it's not available, you got The Green Weenie again.

In my time in the Navy which was only a few years ago, a scuttlebutt was a drinking fountain.

Chief's quarters is affectionately known as the "Goat Locker", and the wardroom is more aptly named the "Weirdroom".

snipes, deck apes, grapes...

the scuttlebutt is also any drinking fountain, hence the tie to gossip.
