Veterans Seek Donations for World War II Memorial - Representatives of the Mayor’s Veterans Advisory
Committee of Manchester Township collected donations for the World War II Veterans Memorial which will be in the
township’s World War II Veterans Memorial Park in Whiting, N.J. The vets reached out to the Joint Base community at
the commissary Feb. 19 – 20, for help in raising additional funds needed due to the rise in material costs because of
the recession. Representing the band of brothers at the commissary were, left to right, Al Cirone, Army veteran of
Korean War, Rocco Coscia, WWII and Korean War Marine Corps veteran, Frank Barone, WWII Army veteran, and
Milton (Pappy) Gore, WWII and Korean War veteran.

Seasoned Veteran - Air Force Colonel Bill Myers shoots the breeze with one of his ground crew in front of an F-4
Phantom at Alconbury Royal Air Force Base in 1965. Myers had a 35-year military career that saw service in three
wars as a fighter pilot. He initially enlisted the military as a private in the field artillery. Bill Myers holds a photo of
his first unit assigned after enlisting, the 168th Service Battery, Colorado Army National Guard, out of Golden,
Colorado in 1938.
