I was wondering if anyone has had any success in setting up a linksys router (firmware dd-wrt) instead of the approved USI Wireless approved router (ruckus?)?

Currently I have USI Wireless roaming plan and was trying to setup a router to funnel multiple connections to their internet and to expand the range inside our stucco house.

Thanks

p.s. Doubt I'll ever buy another generic router again, I've just had the worst luck with them. Probably just need to get some real networking skills.

My WRT54G has come in very handy over the last couple years. My house in N Mpls has up to 6 computers running simultaneously, both wired and wireless.

When I don't have much need for Internet service I leave the wireless connection wide open for anyone to use; 80% of the time it's not overly abused by the neighbors. If I need to use them Internets some goddam idiot teen across the street is downloading continuously, I can lock down the wireless to cut down on bandwidth pirates outside the home.

I don't know USI Wireless' ISP info. You may or may not be able to do an IP search of your own machine to find out the necessary info. For Windows boxes, call up a terminal screen and enter:

ipconfig /all

We have 5 laptops/ipads connected to a wireless G Linksys. Linksys has a wired connection to the USI modem. Works well. Not great, sometimes connection in the house is buggy, but well. It's an improvement over the myriad times things went wrong with Comcast and I explained to the tech what he needed to do to fix it.

You might have a different plan than I do, but I believe the USI Wireless modem is a required part of the equation, although the Linksys does pick some USI broadcasted wifi networks.

Default Router to USI Wireless

Yeah I bought their Modem, but still need to setup a router to feed all the connections in (bad wireless signal and want to hook up multiple computers).

Current problem is getting the internet. Can login successfully to the wireless, but no internet is available. Have the router setup as a "repeater" and a "gateway", but unsure what to do to connect to USI wireless (doing DHCP server about 20 different ways...?).

I've double checked that the internet modem does work correctly so that isn't the issue.

Random sidenote that doesn't effect anything:

I asked for their modem and they sent me a "NanoStation". Odd looking, but seems to function. Has an AC adapter that plugs into the wall and handles the ethernet cables.

Solved the issue...I guess. It was a lot simpler than I was making it out to be. Just left all the settings at their defaults except added wireless security for logging into the router...

I don't quite understand the wireless mode "AP" though. I'm just hoping it takes all the traffic from the computers and makes it look like one computer to the modem.

Thanks for the help!
