A friend and I are both celebrating our Thanksgiving on days other than November 22. I'll be celebrating mine with my family Sat. December 1. That's just how things worked out with my family this year. She celebrated early. So we want to take a little daytrip to MSP/St. Paul just to bum around.

We found one place that will be open, and we plan to spend a couple hours there, definitely.

Anyone know of any stores, shops, or restaurants open in the Twin Cities on Thanksgiving?

Casinos will not close - even if not a gambler might be a people watching option (and their buffets will be presumably open). Some stores, for better or worse, will open later in the day on Thanksgiving (such as Target and Walmart, among probably others). Axel's in the Radisson in Roseville will be open and serving brunch, and I'd imagine other restaurants too.

That's what I can think of at the moment...

Thanks! There's a coffee shop that's going to be open... we're going to hang out there for a while too.

Please keep the suggestions coming! Thanks!

I was actually kind of shocked to see Mall of America wouldn't be open at all. (I checked their website.)
Really? Tourist destination MOA?

I think your situation is relatively unique. Most people spend the day at home, or with friends and family. Here's something I found that might be helpful.

Some of the Uptown businesses will be open. I would assume some of the restaurants (know some of them have Thanksgiving menus), and I know for sure that Magers and Quinn (the largest independent bookstore in the Twin Cities) is open for at least part of the day. The heart of Uptown (centered around Lake Street and Hennepin Ave) is also really near (walking distance near) Lake Calhoun and Lake of the Isles, which are, of course, always open for business - and a worthwhile tourist destination, to boot.

Well, that seems less than nice.

Of course I saw your original post. Why else would I have given you that link? Does that fact that you are celebrating on another day somehow negate my comment that most people are at home on the official holiday? Does it make your situation less unique. I don't see that it does.

Most people celebrate Thanksgiving on... well on Thanksgiving Day. That's why most things are closed.

Enjoy your day.

We WILL! Thanks for the help.

Will arrive home well before midnight, leaving early in the morning. It's just a day trip. But with about 5 hours in the car total, coupled with a few different stops, should be quite a fun and yes.... slightly "unique" day. As unique as the days of any of the other customers and guests in the places we visit...

(Not even going to address anything previously said. I'm sure a few others must've interpreted it similarly.)

Last warm day of the year? Sculpture garden, lakes...Como Zoo will be open. Seward Co-op will be open until 3pm and serving T-day inspired foods on their hot bar. They have a nice seating area and some coffee/tea selection.
