I took 62 to get to the airport from the West Metro last Monday at around 4:30pm, and it took 20 minutes to get from 169 to 100, no accidents anywhere in sight. 45 minutes later, I'm sure it would have been worse.

Somebody should go take the test tomorrow. Get on 62 East at 169 at 5:00pm tomorrow afternoon and see how long it takes you to get to the Cedar Ave exit. I distanced this out at 7.8 miles. If you can do it in under 30 minutes I will mail you a cookie.

Except the route in question is from 169 to France which is 3.5 miles in 30 minutes....

7 miles an hour average for 3.5 miles. A city street goes faster than that, even with stopping for red lights.

Thanks for acknowledging that this stretch of 62 cannot be done in under 30 minutes and, thus, is absolutely horrendous during rush hour.

You also seem to conveniently be backing away from this statement you made earlier in the thread:

BTW, I was east on 62 at 169 today at 5:28pm and by the time I was on the exit ramp on Cedar Ave it was 5:58pm, exactly 30 mins to go 7.8 miles at the tail end of rush hour...and today was actually a light traffic day!

15 mph. That's pretty slow. But probably faster than any city street at that time of day. 7.8 miles is a lot more than 3.5 miles.

Traffic in the Twin Cities sucks. Whoever says "Traffic here really isn't that bad" or "Go to LA if you want to see traffic" is just an idiot

Right now it's 6:00 pm... Go take a stroll up or down HWY 100, 169... Go east or west on 62... Try goin' for a drive east or west on 494 or northbound 494... Try east or west 394... or 94 west ... 35 W? 35 E?

Traffic here is awful. Part of it is the Met Council's refusal to add any new additional freeway lanes, the fast growth of the Twin Cities in the 1990s, and the construction thats jammed into a summer.. The other is the total lack of public transportation here

I know that "The Twin Cities comes nowhere near LA", Duh. but to say that the Twin Cities do not have a traffic problem is just dumb

Twin Cities generally fall in 12-15 in terms of largest metros in US so by default they're probably 12-15 in terms of congestion

It took me an hour to get from Wayzata to Burnsville yesterday at 4:00 pm. With "No Traffic" it should take about 20 minutes... But oh, I guess the Twin Cities don't have traffic issues.

Last week it took me 1:30 to get from Burnsville to Albertville 5:00 pm, when it should typically take around 40 minutes.... But yea, you people are right, I guess there's not a traffic issue

It just took me 25 minutes from 35W to 169 the other day...

Keep in mind, peak times vary from day to day and can be a drastic difference between just a few minutes, ie 5:45 or 6:00

Remember. Since it is not "winter", it is "road construction". I was on my way to an appointment today, going up 35E when it occurred to me that my time allotment assumed no traffic slowdowns. It was between 11:00 and 11:30am. Only construction could really throw off my schedule. But it brings to mind the fact that winter messes up our roads, and some metros don't have to deal with that.

Here's one place to monitor projects: http://www.dot.state.mn.us/roadwork/current.html

And for current conditions: http://www.dot.state.mn.us/tmc/trafficinfo/traffic.html

I'd think something like the second thing on your mobile device would be SUPER useful! I had a job once where an associate dialed up the second display every day before leaving work. He wanted to make sure traffic was flowing in the direction he was going. I think every office that has Internet access would want to know the status at quitting time. Tie-ups can come out of nowhere. A semi tipping over can close a busy highway. If you were going 35, you might want to go 100 or 77.
